Cedar Breaks National Monument

Cedar Breaks National Monument is an amphitheatre of red cliffs topped with cedar and bristlecone pine trees. It is around two miles across and is at an elevation of over 10,000 feet (>3000 meters). In the middle of May it is still cold enough that the visitors' center is closed. There was a brisk wind. We wore jackets and shorts and kept moving.

At Cedar Breaks we saw our first hoodoos of the trip - the red eroded sandstone pillars.
Visitors view the scene from the top.
Below are countless columns and ridges carved by water and wind.
Along the rim trail are fine views. Some places with shade had several feet of snow still on the ground.
In the meadows spring was all around.
